Two years ago, after a large snowfall, I noticed something across the street in my neighbors’ yard.
The nativity scene, with Mary and Joseph gathered around to worship Jesus, buried deep below the snow. It made me want to grab a shovel and dig the poor guy out.
And it made me think about my own spiritual state.
Too often, Jesus get buried under the snow of distraction in my life this time of year. While Jesus desires to be the central focus of my attention and response, he gets buried deep under stuff – not snow, but busyness.
Advent is the time where we learn to pick up a shovel and dig Jesus out from under the snow of distraction in our lives.
