When we started The Renew Community two years ago I was desperately looking for theological, philosophical and methodological training opportunities. One of the ways I felt most equipped as a new church planter was attending and participating in Aggelos.
Aggelos (the Greek word for ‘messenger’ or ‘angel’) is a week-long theological and practical trajectory to missional church planting. There are many solid church planters’ training weeks and boot camps out there. But I find that Aggelos, sponsored by The Ecclesia Network, is fairly unique. The training week is held every May at Richmond Hill Retreat Center, a beautiful rich and spiritual place with a challenging vision of prayer in historic Richmond, VA. You enter into the life of the community there – which involves staying, praying and eating meals together. It’s a beautiful way to be trained and equipped by entering into the rhythms of the residents of this center by praying the hours and sharing meals with them. This year the training will the week of May 17-21, 2010.
If you’re a church planter – or you are thinking about the idea of church planting – I want to challenge you to spend a week with us at Aggelos. I’m excited to be there for a few days to lead a few sessions, learn from other presenters, meet new church planters and spend time with good friends who are planting churches.
Yes, it can seem like a lot of money, but it is well worth the time and resources to attend. In fact, I’ve yet to meet someone that said that the week wasn’t worth it for them.
Check out this link on the Ecclesia site to read about the specifics of the week and to download the PDF of the brochure.
