Dear God,
As you draw me ever deeper into your heart,
I discover that my companions on the journey are women and men
loved by you as fully as intimately as I am.
In your compassionate heart,
There is a place for all of them.
No one is excluded.
Give me a share in your compassion, dear God,
So that your unlimited love may become visible
in the way I love my brothers and sisters.
Amen.
[Q]: How can I recognize the suffering of my sisters and brothers in my own heart?

1My local YMCA just faced the exclusion choice- more like asking new members to pay a higher price to join- a 7 month commitment. Many people join in June and quit in September. Why? To get a cheap pool pass for the Summer. However, to upgrade my account so my wife and daughter could join for the Summer months, no commitment was required. I’m a member in “good standing.”
No one is excluded from the KOG, but I wonder about Jesus’ membership policies. Does Jesus call some to a higher commitment? And if they reject that, what happens? Are they “excluded” in some ways?
I know the point of the prayer, for me to love like God loves because I’m more likely to exclude than God is. How do I include uncommitted people? It seems to go against my instincts. What is the belief here- “Commit to me and I will commit to you?” (“believe and then you belong”) or “Belong then believe”?
