Attempting to behold the miracle long enough without falling asleep

  • Penn and Proselytizing

    January 19, 2009

If you are familiar with the show Penn & Teller you know that Penn is an outspoken atheist.
Check out this fascinating YouTube video of Penn speaking candidly about believers who proselytize. Here's just a snippet of what he says (again, this is coming from an atheist):

"I don't respect people who don't proselytize. If you believe that
there's a heaven and hell, and people could be going to hell, and you
think, 'Well, it's not really worth telling them this because it would
make it socially awkward'… How much do you have to hate somebody not
    to proselytize?"

Watch the video…its worth five minutes of your time.

    WOW!!!
I have been hearing comments like this more and more in the last couple of months.
One Pastor over here gave a sermon on New Years eve, and he said he did research about a book he was writing, and there has never been anyone on his deathbed, that was glad he chose not to believe…

    Wow, wow, wow…
How incredible to know that despite his Atheist views, Penn was honestly touched and moved at the man who would proselytize.
    and, wow…
“how much do you have to hate somebody not to proselytize?”
Thanks for letting me see this and chew on it for a while!!

Had a good discussion the other day about how to approach people. I think it should involve our story (Acts 26), the Gospel (Romans 6:23), our life (1 Pet 3:13-17, John 13:35), and probably some others. I guess our challenge is to continue to grow in all three. (One person I talked to proposed we shouldn’t use the Word initially, but I can’t see how you can do that.)
PS Here’s an inspiring story (I have the audio as well): http://www.navigators.org/us/staff/paul_hensley/Articles1/A%20Link%20in%20the%20Chain
