Attempting to behold the miracle long enough without falling asleep

  • Reading scripture and remaining on mission

    August 1, 2012

Recently a friend gave me five questions from Dr. Darrell Guder (professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and author of several books including the significant book The Missional Church) on reading scripture from a missional perspective.

I like the way these questions frame a view of a Sending God who sends out his people as redemptive agents in a broken world.

    1. What is the good news in this passage?
    2. What does this passage say about who we are?
    3. What does this passage say about who God is?
    4. How does this passage call us to a new way of life?
    5. How does this passage send us?

J.R. — These are great. Do you know if there come from one of his books or an article somewhere?

John Chaner: I got these questions over lunch with Gary Alloway. He would be a good person to talk to about that. Seeing that he went to PTS, I wouldn’t be surprised if he heard it from Guder in a classroom lecture.
